"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes; first for the Jew, then for the Gentile" (Ro 1:16).
I praise and thank God for blessing our struggle last year to obey our key verses, Romans 1:16 and Galatians 5:16, and for using us to serve the world mission work by raising disciples, though we are weak and have many faults.
I. Bible Ukraine
1) The work of his words from Genesis and Luke's gospel. We had four fellowships(fronts) and one English group Bible studies. At the Univ. of Kiev, Abraham B.'s family led one study and Watchman S. led the second study. At the Univ. of Kiev Engineering, Jonathan's family led the first study and Samurai S.'s family led the second study. We have been eagerly struggling to raise 120 1:1 Bible students each week by having early morning prayer meetings, inviting new students regularly, sharing testimonies, having praise meetings, and visiting other chapters. I thank God for raising our fellowship leaders to be responsible spiritual leaders through their struggles last year.
I thank God for establishing a sisters' house as the fruit of our Genesis Bible study. By God's grace, we were able to build a big Bible house center and establish a sisters' team to live together on the 4th floor of the Kiev center. These sisters who are living together are Natasha, Gala, Larisa, and Rena, who all made decisions to live as prayer mothers. Later, Masha, Llia, Alona, and Sbeta joined together with them to make a prayer vessel. All 8 members are growing in Jesus' love through common life team. We are going to set up another sisters' house on the third floor when the number of sisters' common life goes over 15.
2) The work of establishing Godly families
On Jan 2010, God established Sasha and Olena Tutenko's family. We thank God because they are an exemplary family, raising disciples among us and leading an English Bible club.
3) Conferences
From Aug. 19-22, 2010 we had a summer Bible conference at the Kiev Bible center with the theme, "The gift of God." With much grace, we had special guests, such as M. Paul Oh and 5 newcomers from Minsk UBF and Dr James and Kyung-hee Suh and Seung-won Koh, who all served this conference with prayer and the word of God. This conference focused on the gift of God, Jesus (Jn 4), and on a victorious life through the Holy Spirit (Ro 8).
II. World mission
1) The pioneering of new mission lands
(1) In March 2010, God blessed David B.'s family, who had co-worked with us for 8 years, to be sent out to join Jacob V., who has been serving Harikov UBF for six years. We thank God because they are co-working beautifully together in raising disciples.
(2) In March 2010, God blessed Anton I. to be sent out to pioneer the Univ. of Italy. God blessed him to get a full scholarship from the Univ. of Milano (Math, PhD program), and at present, he is serving Ukrainian students through GBS and also learning Italian so that he may serve Italian students through Bible study. We pray that God may prepare the best wife for him for his world mission purpose.
(3) In Aug 2010, God sent M. John Peace's family to pioneer the Podil area. M. John's family sacrificially co-worked with us for six year. God gave them the best job, and their children are growing as spiritual leaders, pioneering the Istanbul campuses as student missionaries. We pray that God may bless M. John with a life-giving Mark's gospel message each week, 12 disciples, and good co-working with M. Gemma who came from Manila UBF in the Philippines.
(4) God sent J to pioneer Cyprus
The pioneering work of Cyprus began through J upon his entering the Univ. of Cyprus (Engineering) in 2010. It is located in the Mediterranean and has been divided in two since 1974. Thirty-six percent of the population occupies the north side of Cyprus in the Republic of Turkey and 64% of the population is on the south side of Cyprus in Republic of Cyprus. Most of the residents on the south side are Greek and follow the Orthodox Church by tradition. The north side of Cyprus in Turkey is occupied mostly by Muslims, and preaching the gospel in public is not allowed. J went to Cyprus with the vision on Muslim nations. God blessed his obedience abundantly with a full scholarship and living expenses provided by the government of Turkey. He is going to study International Politics, and in the future, he will do research on the Middle East and Islam. He prays that he may be an influential shepherd to serve Muslims in this postmodern generation. At present, he is making good relationships with the professors and students from Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. He also formed a Bible club with a few students with a Christian background.
III. Conclusion and new direction for 2011
When I looked back on the year 2010, I found that I was weak and did not advance in faith and was disappointed in myself. But I realized and was comforted when I prepared this report, seeing that God has been being my Immanuel in 2010 despite my weakness and lack of faith.
(1) I was especially greatly encouraged by God for accepting our vision to increase his gospel work from Ukraine to the Black Sea region and all the more from the Islam Middle East, and leading me step by step to achieve it for his name's sake.
(2) I also thank God for using M. Mark and Esther preciously in the Kiev ministry for the last 17 years as faithful co-workers, disciple-makers, and music servants. Other precious co-workers are M. Hannah who majored in Christian music and Dmitry's family who has been serving the orchestra.
(3) I thank God for M. John and Maria Peace' s family who could pioneer a new student ministry for both English and Ukrainian-speaking people after beautifully co-working with us for six years in the Kiev ministry.
(4) I thank God for M. Sarah's serving and prayer for us as a mother of prayer.
(5)I thank God for all our precious co-workers: Abraham and Maria's family, Noah and Anna's family, Jonathan and Can-do's family, Samurai and Katya Berry's family, Yaroslav and Larisa's family, Watchman Dima and Hannah's family, and Gentleman Sasha and Olena's family.
(6) I thank God for the 12 who were sent out to pioneer new ministries and who are serving God with unshaken gospel faith: J & R (Istanbul, Turkey), Anastasia (Princeton, NJ), Ruth (NEIU, Chicago), Vladimir, John, David, Victoria (Harikov), MJ and C (Istanbul, Turkey), Anton (Milano, Italy), and J(Cyprus).
(7) I thank God that we could have the great privilege to co-work with Chicago UBF and Kyungsung UBF for his world mission purpose, and I believe that God was pleased in all our work.
(8) I praise and render glory to God for listening to our prayers for 19 years, raising Kiev and Ukraine to be a shepherd nation and missionary sending nation. I confess that all these things are only by God's grace and mercy.
We pray that God may continue to bless the prayers of our Kiev UBF co-workers for Islam mission through the Black Sea region as our five loaves and two fish, and raise disciples of Jesus and good soldiers of Christ who will carry out his mission.
Prayer Topics:
Kiev UBF 2011's New Year's key verse is 1 Samuel 7:3. According to this key verse, we pray that God may bring revival and raise disciples in the Kiev UBF ministry in this year. The year 2011 is the 20th anniversary of Kiev UBF. We pray that God may enable us to bear his grace and mercy.
My personal key verse is 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. I pray that I may try to grow and mature into the image of Jesus this year.
In Christ,
M. Peter
